Fitness-Equipment Providence Friars defeated Seton Hall University by a score of 98-93 in the overtime this Thursday at the Prudential center in Newark. Jeff Xavier scored a 20 point and shot 5 of 7 from three point territory which paced the Friars. The Friars were in lead 8-4 in just three minutes and took an advantage of 14-11 when the clock hit 14:11 in the first half. A 3-pointer by Xavier put the Friars back up 18-15 and he nailed another trey to help PC build a 23-17 lead with 10:18 to go in the half. Xavier then delivered his fourth 3-pointer to extend this lead to 31-22 and Weyinmi Efejuku hit another 3-pointer to put the Friars a lead of 36-22 at the 6:36 mark. Hall replied with successive treys delivered by Jeremy Hazell to move within 41-33 with just four minutes left in the first half and by other efforts, the Friars entered the second half with a 46-42 lead. The Friars shot 56.7 percent (17-30) in the half, including a season-high 75.0 percent (9-12) from 3-point range. Xavier paced Providence with 12 first-half points. Seton Hall tied the score 50-50 in just two minutes of the second half and took the lead when Hazell scored a triple with score 53-52. Xavier and Brooks .bined efforts took the lead for the Friars 72-64 advantage with just 19 minutes to go in the second half. A streaking slam dunk by Efejuku gave the Friars a 90-88 lead with 2:45 remaining in the overtime. After the Pirates retook the lead, Xavier hit two free throws to give Providence the 93-91 advantage. Curry replied Xavier with two free throws of his own to let Friars lead of 95-91 which was the final score.
